Annual Meeting to Feature Susan B. Anthony
DATE: Sunday, Nov. 23 2008 - 2:00 p.m.

Speaker: Sally Matson, Actress/Educator
TOPIC: Susan B. Anthony -the Invincible
Ms. Matson, from Andover, Massachusetts will portray Susan B. Anthony who comes to life, circulating petitions, meeting Buffalo Bill and inviting herself to the White House. A dynamic lady, born in 1820, she broke the rules of her day, challenged legislators, charmed newsmen, and wore fancy clothes even though she was a Quaker. She struggled all her life to get voting rights for women and equal rights for all.

Local History buff, Thomas Slater of Hamden will display Post Cards of Old New Haven.
The meeting is open to members and guests and there is no charge. Election of officers and board will take place and annual reports will be presented. Refreshments will be served and souvenirs can be purchased.. For more information, call 466-1596.
Fort Nathan Hale is Closed for 2008
Fort Nathan Hale is now closed for the season. There were many exciting activities in 2008 and work on developing a Museum at the facility.
The Fort Nathan Hale board extends it sincere appreciation for all participants, volunteers and visitors to the facility that made this a very successful season.
Native American Culture and Festival - June 14, 15 2008
Fort Nathan Hale hosted a Native American Culture and Festival Event on June 14 and 15. .We wish to thank all that participated making this a successful. A WEB page is being developed that will highlight the activities. The program and information page for the event is listed below.

Book: What Happened to the Quinnipiacs
Fort Nathan Hale Restorations Projects, Inc., past president Doris B. Townshend has written and published an historical narrative of these Native Americans before and after the settlement of New Haven in 1638. It has been written for grammar school students from fifth through eigth grades and is informative history for adults tool.

Springfest '08
The first annual Fort Nathan Hale Springfest convened at Cafe Bottega at 910 Chapel Street in New Haven on March 19. It was a resounding success with nearly 100 in attendance. Highlights included a presentation on projects at Fort Nathan Hale and information on the work on Native American Culture at Hammonasett State Park. Nearly 3,000 dollars were raised to benefit programs at Fort Nathan Hale including the Native American Event scehduled for June 14 and 15th.
We extend our thans to our programming committee, the staff and management of Cafe Bottega for hosting the event, sponsors of Raffel Items and those that attended and support Fort Nathan Hale.
Monument to Honor the Connecticut 29th Colored Regiment C.V. Infantry
In September 2008 during National Freedom Trail Month, a monument installation ceremony will mark an important moment of history at Criscuolo Park/Grapevine Point in New Haven.
The monument will commemorate and thus honor the service of soldiers during several campaigns in Virginia from August through October of 1864. These gallant troops, their accomplishments and sacrifices are being remerged and honored through the efforts of their descendants and concerned citizens.
Fort Nathan Hale, its board and members salutes the regiment and commends the committee who is working so that so that heroes of past campaigns can stand with honor among others so honored on New Haven Harbor.

2007 Wreath-Laying Event

Bayview Park New Haven
The annual wreath-laying ceremony honoring the memory of the 9th Connecticut (Irish) Regiment was held Sunday, November 11th, Veterans Day, at 11:00am at Bayview Park in New Haven. See 9th Regiment for more information on the monument and directions to Bayview Park.
Boy Scout Troop 401 Projects at Fort Nathan Hale
Through many seasons, Fort Nathan Hale and the citizens of Greater New Haven have benefited from the dedication and commitment of the members and leaders of Boy Scout Troop 401 in support of restoration and maintenance projects and activities in the community.
Two important Eagle Scout Projects in 2007 involve restoration and maintenance of the Park Pavilion, replacement of benches and repair of a cannon mount.
Gordon LaChance of East Haven proposed and lead an Eagle Scout Project to repair the Pavilion.
Aaron Burr of East Haven has proposed and and lead a project to repair or replace wooden benches and repair a cannon mount.

State Monument To Honor Irish Regiment At Vicksburg
Long denied a State of Connecticut monument at the Vicksburg National Military Park, U. S. Senate legislation in the 1990s opened the door by redefining the Vicksburg campaign and allowing land to be added to the Park. This enables Connecticut to place a monument, along with 28 other current states both Union and Confederate, to honor the Ninth Regiment Connecticut Volunteers.

Fort Wooster Park

Memorial to the Quinnipac Indian Tribe, Townsend Avenue, New Haven
Located near Fort Nathan Hale on New Haven's Eastern Shore, Fort Wooster and its Memorial Park commands the heights of Beacon Hill where signal fires were once lit to warn inhabitants of impending dangers. The park features walking trails leading up to earthen works fortifications at the top of the hill.
As significant is the history of the Quinnipiac Indian Tribe and sacred burial grounds associated with the park as highlighted by the engraving on the park's marble monument. Please visit the following link for more information:

Landmark and Historic Site
Fort Nathan Hale was declared a Landmark and Historic site
by the New Haven Preservation Trust, the first site so recognized in
New Haven. In 1970, Fort Nathan Hale was placed on the National Register
of Historic Places by the Department of the Interior thus granting national
recognition of this historic place.
Fort Nathan Hale Restoration Projects, Inc.
Fort Nathan Hale Restoration Projects, Inc., a non-profit
organization, was established in 1967 by a group of concerned citizens
interested in restoration and preservation of Fort Nathan Hale, which
was dedicated on July 5, 1976.
Through the efforts of the FNHRP, funds are raised annually
to maintain, staff and promote the facility. Monies are raised by: membership;
open to all who share concern for the need to preserve our historic links
with the past for the benefit of the present; special events; grants
and donations.
